We're Transitioning to an Independent RIA!
A message from Melissa Joy on the transition:
What’s changing on August 1st?
Pearl Planning will officially become its own independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA). We’ll continue operating under the same name and brand you know and trust—just no longer under the umbrella of Stephens Wealth Management Group. This change gives us full independence, but everything you value about working with us—our team, our approach, and our commitment to your financial goals—remains the same.
What is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA)?
A Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) is a firm that provides financial advice and investment management services and is registered with regulatory bodies—the SEC in our case or state securities regulators. When firms have over $100 million in assets, they are registered with the SEC. RIAs are held to a fiduciary standard, which means they are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest. As an RIA, Pearl Planning will continue to offer transparent, personalized guidance while having greater flexibility to choose the tools, platforms, and strategies that best support your financial success.
Why is Pearl Planning becoming its own RIA?
This step allows us greater independence and flexibility to make decisions that are solely in the best interest of our clients. As an independent RIA, we can select tools, services, and strategies that best support your financial success.
Why now?
After years of thoughtful planning and strong client relationships, we believe now is the right time to take full control of this part of our business. We evaluated this change based on size, service needs, and our vision for the future. Ultimately, we had you, our client, and the services you will be able to receive at the center of our decision. This move reflects our plans for growth, vision, and unwavering commitment to putting you first.
How will this change affect me as a client?
Very little will change on your end. Your relationship with your advisor, your investment strategy, and your financial goals all remain the same. You may notice refreshed branding and receive minor paperwork, but the day-to-day experience will continue seamlessly.
Will I need to do anything?
In most cases, no action is needed. If you're comfortable continuing with us under Pearl Planning, your accounts will transition automatically. If you prefer not to move forward with us, simply let us know and we’ll ensure a smooth and respectful transition.
Will my investments be affected?
No. Your investment portfolio will remain aligned with your financial plan and long-term goals. This transition will not impact your portfolio's structure, risk tolerance, or performance strategy.
Will there be any service interruptions?
No. Our goal is to make this transition as seamless and uninterrupted as possible. Your access to reports, financial plans, and advisor communication will remain uninterrupted.
Will my fees change?
No, your current fee structure will stay the same. Should any changes ever arise in the future, we will communicate them transparently and well in advance.
Will my account numbers or custodian change?
No, your custodian (e.g., Raymond Jams, Schwab, etc.) will remain the same, and your account numbers will not change. Your assets stay exactly where they are. This transition only affects the advisory relationship, not the underlying accounts.
Who will be managing my account?
Your existing advisor and support team will remain the same. You’ll continue to work with the people you know and trust, who are fully committed to your financial well-being.
Will I still have access to the same tools and reports?
Yes. You will continue to use the same platforms and reporting tools you’re familiar with. If any enhancements are made, we’ll keep you informed and help you make the most of them.
How will I know when the transition is complete?
We will keep you informed every step of the way. You will receive confirmation when your accounts have fully transitioned, and our team will be available to answer any questions throughout the process.
Is Pearl Planning still a fiduciary?
Absolutely. We remain committed to acting in your best interest and upholding the highest fiduciary standards in all that we do.
How can I verify Pearl Planning’s registration?
You can view Pearl Planning’s registration as a Registered Investment Advisor through the SEC’s public database at adviserinfo.sec.gov. Simply search for “Pearl Planning.”
What does this mean for Pearl Planning’s future?
Becoming an independent RIA positions Pearl Planning for long-term growth and innovation. We will have the flexibility to invest in better technology, client experiences, and strategic partnerships that further enhance the value we deliver to you.
Who should I contact if I have more questions?
We’re here to help. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the transition further, please don’t hesitate to reach out or schedule a time to talk. Your comfort and confidence are our top priorities.
